A Game of Thrones (Day 1)

Prologue (Will)
Three rangers (Royce, Gerad and Will) are out tracking wildlings. Will finds their camp with all of them apparently dead. He goes back to the others and they spend 10 pages arguing about what might have killed them, so by the time they make it back to the camp the bodies are gone. Will climbs a tree to act as a lookout, and therefore survives an attack by the Others. When he goes down to investigate Royce's corpse, it wightifies and scares the crap out of him.

Cavalli! (Part 1)

For the uninitiated: I'm currently Doing Dubai (posts to come in the days following Christmas when I gain a companion to re-do all of the touristy things with). I've spent three months of my life here, living at The Fairmont, which is happily situated above one of Dubai's hottest nightclubs: Cavalli. With only three weeks left, I've finally decided to get off my bum and enter the infamous pit of sparkles and debauchery.

Pre-Preparation

The first, and apparently most important, rule of Cavalli (according to my in-house veteran, M) is that "too much is never enough". You can never have enough diamonds and sequins, you can never have enough hair, and you can never have enough skin showing. The prude in me balks a little at that last "rule", but I think I've managed to come up with an outfit that will allow me to fit in without losing (or showing) myself too much.

Beth Re-reads A Song of Ice and Fire

I was very, very late jumping on this bandwagon. I have no excuses and many regrets, but I couldn't be happier to finally be a part of this club.

Even though I powered through the series in about 6 weeks, after finishing ADWD this afternoon I feel compelled to go back to the beginning and do it all again. Part of this is due to the realisation I had when browsing this forum that I really don't remember a whole lot of what I just read; there's just so many details. And the details are what really made this series for me (~controversy~: AFFC and ADWD combined may actually be my favourite book), so I really need to take the opportunity to soak up as much as I can over the Christmas break*.

I decided I may as well take some notes along the way so I don't have to do another massive re-read when (if?) The Winds of Winter is released, and the next logical step was to share it with the internetz. I'll try to get a couple of chapters done every day, at least at first, so I can finish AGOT before Beth Goes To London!
